Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. She joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. She joined NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was named as the head White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. She served as a panelist during the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism at The John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution to the cause of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-contra affair, the budget and tax reform, as well as the arms control. She traveled extensively with President Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
